The annual "Rapeseed Flower Picking" event is taking place around the Omido Kannonji Temple in Fugenji, Kyotanabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. Approximately 50,000 rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, and tourists are picking their favorite plants and taking photos with the cherry blossoms lining the streets. The event runs until April 5th.
The Kyotanabe City Tourism Association cultivates the flowers annually using nearby rice paddies. Seeds were sown in November of last year, timed to coincide with the event's start on March 28th this year. The local Kyotanabe Agricultural Welfare and Tourism Community Development Council provided assistance, including installing ramps. A photo spot themed "LOVE Kyotanabe" has also been set up.
Admission and flower picking are free. On April 4th and 5th, the approach road to Omido Kannonji Temple will be closed to vehicles, and the temple's parking lot will be unavailable. The Kyotanabe City Tourism Association recommends parking at the nearby "Fugenji Fureai no Eki" (Fugenji Friendship Station).
