In Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, the only place in the prefecture that produces barley, a key ingredient in beer, the harvest has reached its peak. Under the early summer sun, the golden ears of ripe barley swayed in the wind as large combine harvesters efficiently cut them down.
In Kameoka City, approximately 80 hectares are dedicated to cultivating the two-row barley variety "New Sachihogolden," primarily in the Kawahigashi area. 200 tons of harvested barley are shipped to Kirin Beer.
In Kawarabayashi-cho, Kameoka City, 16 hectares are planted, and harvesting began in late May. Good weather during the planting season in November of last year, along with significant temperature fluctuations during the winter, has resulted in a harvest comparable to last year's. Kunihiro Kato (73 years old), representative director of the Kawarabayashi Agricultural Cooperative, said, "We put our heart and soul into this. We hope people will enjoy it as delicious beer."
