At approximately 5:10 a.m. on June 29, the first local train of the day (a four-car set) bound for Kashiharajingu-mae from Kyoto derailed within the premises of Kyoto Station on the Kintetsu Kyoto Line in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City. It appears that the second and third cars derailed; the train did not overturn, and none of the 30 passengers or three crew members sustained injuries.

Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on June 29, Kintetsu announced that operations between Kyoto Station and Kamitobaguchi Station (in both directions) would be suspended for the remainder of the day.

The company also estimates that approximately 85,000 passengers will be affected by the disruption through the last train of the day.
