A fashion show featuring upcycled creations made from used clothing and fabric scraps was held on August 22, 2026, at the Kyoto Koka Women's University Junior College in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. Students walked the runway wearing the garments they had crafted themselves.
The event was organized as part of a fashion studies course and coincided with the school's open campus day. Thirteen second-year students worked on the designs and production, focusing on themes such as "upcycling"—the process of transforming materials into products of higher value rather than simply reusing them.
The show opened with three students showcasing upcycled sweatshirts from sports brands; they had sewn together shirts and blouses of varying materials and added finishing touches like ribbons and ruffles. A diverse array of outfits followed, including costumes inspired by pop idols and dresses modeled after Disney characters, drawing cheers of "Cute!" and prompting audience members to snap photos.
A 19-year-old female second-year student from Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture—who incorporated neckties into her design—commented, "I put a lot of thought into how to combine the different materials to create a cool look. It gave me a real sense of accomplishment to have so many people see my work."
