On January 3, 2024, two monkeys appeared in a residential area in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, climbing telephone poles and passing through gaps between rows of private houses. Two monkeys also appeared in the area at the end of last year.

On the afternoon of January 3rd, the monkey appeared in a residential area south of Kyoto Gyoen National Garden (Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City). It didn't seem to approach people, and was eating nuts and grass in a vacant lot.

A police officer from the Kyoto Prefectural Police's Nakagyo Station, who was on guard duty, appealed to nearby residents, saying, ''There are two monkeys in the area. Please do not approach them unnecessarily and make sure to lock your house.''
