The Aoi Festival, one of Kyoto's three major festivals, was held in Kyoto on May 15, 2024. Approximately 500 people in Heian costumes paraded down the fresh green Miyako Road, creating a scene that resembled a picture scroll of the dynasty.

The procession is called a ''roadside ceremony'' that recreates the Heian Dynasty, and starts from the Kyoto Imperial Palace (Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City), performs a ritual at Shimogamo Shrine (Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City), and then returns to Kamigamo Shrine (Kyoto City). They paraded about 8 kilometers to Kita Ward).
