Hydrangeas are in full bloom at Sanzenin Temple in Ohara, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. Under the rainy season sky, blue flowers are mixed with purple and pink flowers, and the pale colors attract worshippers.
About 1,000 hydrangeas are planted in the "Hydrangea Garden" on the slope in the middle of the temple grounds.
In addition to the large hydrangeas with a blue base, star-like hydrangeas and mountain hydrangeas are in bloom. Large heart-shaped flowers were also found along the path.
The rain has increased the volume of the water, creating a cool river sound. The abundant water also flows into the temple grounds, and flowers are floating in the chozu pots.
A female office worker who came from Otsu City said, "I came to see the blue flowers. It was worth the long journey. I'm extremely satisfied." There were also many foreign worshippers. A Korean woman said, "I like the retro feel," and captured the blue colors that stand out in the rainy season on an old Nikon film camera.
Sanzen-in Temple will hold its annual Hydrangea Festival until July 7, when the flowers will be in full bloom. It will also hold a Charity Exhibition of Calligraphy and Paintings by Buddhist monks and shrine priests from Kyoto and Shiga.
