“Kyoto Takigi Noh,” a traditional event that announces the beginning of June, opened on June 1, 2023. Due to the forecast of rain, the venue was changed from the outdoor stage of Heian Jingu Shrine (Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City) to the main hall of the nearby ROHM Theater Kyoto. This year, you can enjoy a tour of Kyoto that transcends time and space with programs set in Kyoto temples and shrines such as Kiyomizudera. It will also be open in the evening on the 2nd.
Sponsored by the Kyoto Nohgakukai and the city, it has continued since 1950 (Showa 25). It is held at Heian Shrine on June 1st and 2nd every year, and since the opening of the ROHM Theater in 2016, it will be held at the same theater in case of rain, but this is the first time that the venue has actually been changed.

On June 1st, the festival will begin with Kamo, a Noh play in which the gods of Kamigamo Shrine dance. This was followed by Noh "Kumano (Yuya)," which depicts the spring scenery of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kyogen "Onigawara," which visits Shimogyo Inaba-do, and Noh "Shari," in which a foot demon appears at Sennyu-ji Temple in Higashiyama. Because it was indoors, no firewood was burned, but the audience enjoyed it, imagining the famous temples of Rakuchū Rakugai.
It will open at 6pm on June 2nd. “Tsunemasa,” a Noh related to Ninnaji Temple, “Million,” a Noh about a mother searching for her child at Saga Seiryoji Temple, and “Kanawa,” a Noh based on Kibune’s visit to the time of the ox. etc. will be performed.
