A special Sagano Scenic Railway service is running through illuminated autumn leaves. Approximately 1,000 maples and other trees along the line from Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City to Kameoka City stand out in the dark night, creating a fantastic atmosphere for passengers.

The Sagano Scenic Railway (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City) holds this event every year to coincide with the autumn foliage season. Approximately 1,000 lights are set up along the tracks, illuminating the trees whose leaves are dyed bright red. This year, new lights have been installed to illuminate the river surface at Hozugawa Bridge Ryo (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City) between Torokko Arashiyama and Torokko Hozukyo, and seven-colored lights have been added to the Tono Gyoba (Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture).
There are also illumination decorations at Torokko Hozukyo Station, and passengers cheer when the LED lights come on all at once.
The best time to see the autumn leaves is said to be around early December, and the illuminations will be in place until December 29th. The boat is closed on Wednesdays in December.
