The coldest air of this winter, which brought heavy snowfall from February 8, 2026, caused snow and ice to accumulate on roads in Kyoto Prefecture from the morning of February 9, resulting in cars slipping and getting stuck. This caused disruption to commuting and school commutes.

According to the Kyoto Prefectural Police, between February 8 and 7:00 AM on February 9, there were a series of 110 calls from various parts of Kyoto Prefecture due to the snow. There were 25 personal injury accidents, 277 property damage accidents, and 96 reports of cars getting stuck or getting stuck.
