Ahead of the annual "Godairikison Nio-e" event to be held at Daigoji Temple (Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City) on February 23, 2026, an exhibition of giant kagami mochi (rice cakes) the same size as those used in the event opened on February 11 at Hotel Granvia Kyoto (Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City). Monks dressed as mountain ascetics performed a spirit-infusing ceremony and prayed for people's happiness.

Placed in the lobby was a two-tiered red and white kagami mochi weighing 150 kg. It is the same size as the mochi lifted by a man during the Godairikison Nio-e "Mochiage Chikara Hounen." The exhibit has been on display every year since 2006.

During the memorial service, monks blew conch shells and chanted sutras, infusing the kagami mochi with a soul. Hotel guests looked on with interest, holding up their smartphones and cameras. The exhibition will run until February 23.

Mochiage is an event to offer power to the Five Great Wisdom Kings. The men's division starts at 11:00 a.m., and the women's division (90 kg) starts at 1:00 p.m.
