A tourist pear orchard has opened in Kumihama-cho, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, which is known for its production of pears. At a farm in Uraaki, Kumihama Town, the Town Fruit Tree Tourism Association held a ``Pashiyama Opening'' event, where children enjoyed picking pears.
In Kumihama Town, five of the 12 farmers who are members of the association operate tourist pear orchards. This year, with less rainfall this summer, the fruits are smaller than usual, but they are still sweet enough.
At the Nashiyama Opening, Kiyoto Nose, president of the association, gave a greeting, saying, ``Please eat delicious pears with all your heart and have fun.'' Approximately 50 children from three nursery schools and kindergartens in Kumiyama Town stretched out on tables. They ate the ``Gold 20th Century'' with the skin on, and cheered, ``It's delicious.''
Pear picking is open until late October. Admission fees are 880 yen for junior high school students and older, 770 yen for elementary school students, and 550 yen for preschoolers, and all you can eat for up to 2 hours. The town's tourist information center +81-772-82-1781.
