The Kamishichiken Beer Garden, where geisha and maiko dressed in yukata entertain guests, began on the evening of July 1, 2024, at the Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater in Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City. In the courtyard, surrounded by greenery thickened by the rain, visitors enjoyed the cool evening air with a beer in hand.
At 5:30 pm, the 10 connected Kamishichiken lanterns were lit, and geisha dressed in purple yukata and maiko dressed in pink yukata welcomed guests. A woman (55 years old) from Tokyo, who is a regular fan of maiko, said with enthusiasm, "It was the first time I was able to talk to them, and I was touched by how cute they were."
Fumien (22), a maiko wearing a fan hairpin, said, "I'll do my best to help you forget the heat," while Ichiyuki (19), a native of Kyoto who only became a maiko last fall, said with a smile, "I was so nervous I couldn't sleep, but I'm looking forward to having fun with everyone."
