At the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, various types of cherry blossoms, including Somei Yoshino and weeping cherry trees, are reaching their peak bloom. They are adorning the garden, competing with tulips, which are also in full bloom. On March 28, 2026, a warm day with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius, foreign tourists and families visited the garden, spreading out plastic sheets and enjoying "hanami" (cherry blossom viewing).
The garden boasts approximately 500 cherry trees of over 200 varieties, centered around a 7,000 square meter "cherry blossom grove" area. Following early-blooming varieties such as the slender cherry, karamizakura, and Kanhizakura, Somei Yoshino, mountain cherry, and weeping cherry trees are currently in full bloom, with many trees already in full bloom.
According to the garden, other varieties such as the Yaebenishidare will begin to bloom soon, and visitors can enjoy a variety of cherry blossoms until late April.
Open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:00 PM). An admission fee is required. Please note that the conservatory will be closed on April 1st and 2nd for maintenance.
