At the Kyoto Prefectural Greening Center in Hirano, Yakuno-cho, Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture, the famous "Hitoeshiro Higan Shidarezakura" (single-petaled white weeping cherry tree) has reached full bloom, and illumination began on the evening of April 3, 2026. Its slender branches hang down, and the petals sparkle.
The Kyoto Prefectural Greening Center is known as a famous spot for weeping cherry trees, boasting 73 varieties and approximately 130 trees. Among them, the Hitoe Shiro Higan Shidarezakura was grafted from a weeping cherry tree in Maruyama Park in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. Fourteen Yaebenishidarezakura (double-flowered weeping cherry trees) lining both sides of the approximately 100-meter-long entrance road to the Kyoto Prefectural Greening Center are about 10% in bloom and are expected to reach full bloom soon.
The illumination will be from 6 PM to 10 PM and will continue until around April 19th. On April 11th and 12th, a local residents' group will hold the "Yakuno Highlands Cherry Blossom Festival." On the evening of April 11th, a variety of events will be held, including a musical performance called "An Evening of Weeping Cherry Blossoms."
