On April 5, 2026, a cherry blossom viewing event was held in northern Kyoto Prefecture, where families and others enjoyed the full bloom and the atmosphere of spring.
In Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, the "Yohoro River Cherry Blossom Walking" event took place, with citizens walking approximately 7 kilometers along the Yoho River to enjoy the full bloom of cherry blossoms.
The event was organized by an executive committee comprised of the NPO "Maizuru Dream: Making the Yoho River a Cherry Blossom Milky Way," among others. This organization has been planting and maintaining cherry trees along the Yoho River since 1993, and now boasts over 1,000 trees.
Approximately 100 participants departed from Shiraitohama Shrine (Hama, Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture) and walked upstream along the Yoho River, admiring the rows of cherry trees. They enjoyed taking photos and chatting under the canopy of Somei Yoshino and weeping cherry trees, their branches spreading out like a tunnel.
A 78-year-old woman who participated with friends said with satisfaction, "I knew about the cherry blossoms in Yoho, but this is my first time walking through them. They're in full bloom, it's truly wonderful."
At the Tango-Yura Station of the Kyoto Tango Railway in Yura, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, the "Tango-Yura Cherry Blossom Festival" was held. Residents enjoyed the cherry blossom trees, some about 100 years old, in full bloom, while also enjoying stalls and musical performances.
The cherry trees were planted around 1924, when the station opened. In spring, they form a cherry blossom arch, which is a beloved sight.
A stage was set up in a location visible from the train, and bands based in Tango performed. A variety of stalls and food trucks selling items such as barazushi (scattered sushi) and Vietnamese curry lined the area. When the wind blew, the cherry blossoms scattered, and visitors took pictures.
