The annual "Toba Wisteria" public viewing event began on April 17, 2026, at the Kyoto City Waterworks Bureau's Toba Water Environment Conservation Center (Minami Ward, Kyoto City), known for its approximately 120-meter-long wisteria trellis. Visitors enjoyed the magnificent sight of the purple curtains of wisteria.
The event is held annually by the Kyoto City Waterworks Bureau with the aim of deepening understanding of waterworks and sewage systems. Approximately 40 wisteria bushes of three varieties—long wisteria, white wisteria, and white wisteria—are in full bloom. The flowers are about 80-90% in bloom and are expected to reach full bloom this weekend.
An 80-year-old woman from Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, smiled and said, "It's been a long time since I've been here, but it's wonderful to see them in such beautiful bloom."
The event runs until April 19th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (last entry at 3:30 PM). Admission is free.
On April 18th and 19th, events such as guided tours of the sewage treatment plant and a water quality experiment corner will be held. There is no parking nearby, so a special city bus service will operate between the facility and Takeda Station.
