This season, there has been a big catch of yellowtails in fixed nets set in the Sea of Japan off the coast of the Tango Peninsula in Kyoto Prefecture. They arrive at the Maizuru Regional Wholesale Market in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture, from fishing ports all over the country. The market is bustling with activity as plump yellowtails of around 10 kilograms are brought in one after another.

The fishing season begins at the end of November. In December, Kyoto Prefecture has been catching more than a thousand yellowtails, far exceeding the 500 that is considered the benchmark for a big catch. On December 13th and 16th, 7,000 were caught each. On December 20th, a total of 1,901 yellowtails were landed at Tai Suisan in Maizuru City, Ineura Fisheries and Kamai Suisan in Ine Town, and other fisheries.
On this day, yellowtails arrived at the wholesale market by land from each fishing port from around 9 a.m., and employees of the Prefectural Fisheries Cooperative Association were busy weighing each one and packing them into boxes. The yellowtail were put up for bidding and auction, and shipped to the Kanto and Keihanshin regions.
