A recipe contest for healthy dishes created by elementary and junior high school students in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, was held, and from over 450 applications, 10 creative dishes, including rice bowls and soups made with plenty of locally grown vegetables, were awarded. Cooking tips will be posted on the city's website, and some of the recipes will be used in future school lunches.

Nantan City has been holding this contest once a year since 2020 to encourage children to think about healthy eating habits from an early age.
This year, there were two themes: "Potassium-rich recipes using vegetables and soy products" and "Healthy Japanese recipes using vegetables and bonito stock," and 310 and 148 entries were submitted, respectively.

The "Nantan City Food Producer Award" was awarded to "Melty Winter Melon Rice Bowl" created by Sanae Haruka (14), a third-year student at Sonobe Junior High School. "Everyone in my family has a weak stomach, so I used winter melon, which is kind to the body," she said. She created a rice bowl full of vegetables with a colorful look in mind.
After being judged by nutrition teachers and others, the awards ceremony was held on December 17th at Asuel Sonobe (Sonobe Town).
